As the name suggests, PAPHAL is a new platform, attempting to find the aesthetic of the union of opposite or paradoxical art impulses- visual and performing arts. The name of our project is derived from an archaic Manipuri term for alchemical ouroboros, the coiled serpent with the tail in its mouth or the snake that eats its own tail. Paphal is a dramatic symbol of integration and assimilation of the opposite. It is also said to havethe meaning of infinity and wholeness – the absolute completeness of one’s virtue. In short, Paphal symbolizes the One, who proceeds from the clash of opposites. The aim of an individual is the realization ofSelf, the integration of all opposite aspects of impulse or psyche - generally called it as the realization ofinnermost divine essence of man or the attainment of wholeness and the feed-back symbol Paphal is its visual and abstract representation. And the Project PAPHAL is designed to catalyze synthesis processes by bringing divergent artists and designers of various mediums into a common platform. The first phase of the project will cover three art forms viz., painting, fashion, and music.
